Top 5 Tips to Prepare Your Static Caravan for Spring

With the months rolling by, it can’t feel that long ago since you prepared your static caravan for winter.

The good news, is there’s only a few more months until we hit the sunnier seasons and caravan sites open back up for spring.

Whether you can’t wait to get back to your caravan for a spring break, or you’re raring to check it out in preparation to sell, we’ve put together our top 5 tips to help you prepare your caravan for spring with ease.

Check your water, gas and electrics.

The water, gas and electrics may have been switched off for some time over winter, so get in touch with your site so they can switch these back on before you return.

 

Look out for any storm damage

Has the exterior suffered from any high winds, tidal surges or lightning over the winter season? It’s worth looking at the side panels, roof, aerials lights, cladding, decking or verandas to make sure they’re ok.

 

Check for signs of damp

Look for any visible signs of damp and use a dehumidifier for a few hours if you can’t detect any noticeable signs. If in doubt, leave the doors and windows open to get some air in.

 

Check any safety devices

The batteries to your safety devices may be running low or have run out entirely – especially so for carbon monoxide detectors. Check these are charged or have enough power before you return to your caravan for a longer break.

 

Fire safety

You can’t go wrong keeping a fire extinguisher in your static, but it’s also worth checking the electrics to see if any gives off a spark once the power is turned back on. This is important in case you have been affected by damp.

 

As a final finish, consider having a bit of a spring clean so your caravan feels fresh and looks well recovered just in case it has suffered any damage over winter – you insurance provider should be able to help with any significant problems.
